Stress Urinary Incontinence

Stress Urinary Incontinence is the loss of urine with exertion
(i.e. coughing, sneezing, jumping)

Cause:  Pelvic floor muscle weakness due to:

Treatment: Pelvic floor muscle strengthening and re-education modalities

Urge incontinence

Urge Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine with a strong urge to urinate usually associated
with an irritant (running water, walking by the bathroom, putting key in a lock, nervousness)

Causes:  Uninhibited bladder contractions

Treatment: Bladder training techniques

Mixed Urinary Incontinence

Mixed Urinary Incontinence is concurrent urge and stress incontinence

Causes:  Pelvic floor muscle weakness and uninhabited bladder contractions

Treatment: Pelvic floor muscle strengthening, re-education, and bladder training
